The Seattle Times

What goes best with coffee? Nothing beats reading the latest news over a good cup of latte. The Seattle Times makes coffee breaks as worthwhile as possible.

The largest and the city’s leading newspaper, the Seattle Times, has been bringing headlines to the locals for more than a century. It was not as big as it is now when it started as a four-page newspaper in 1891. It was then known as the Seattle Press-Times, with a 3,500 circulation everyday. Alden J. Blethen, a Maine teacher and attorney bought it in 1896 and changed its name to Seattle Daily Times. Circulation was twice as many as it was before he bought it. Then, by 1915, circulation was at 70,000 daily. Towards the end of 2005, the circulation on weekdays was over two hundred fifteen thousand.

The Seattle Times is among the few newspapers in major cities in the United States that is solely-owned and run by local families. The Seattle Times Company is a business that has been with the family from four to five generations.

The company’s finest newspaper is actually the Seattle Times. It is not considered as the leading daily newspaper in the city only, but in the whole Washington state as well. It is also the Northwest’s largest Sunday paper.

The Seattle Times is proud of its thorough coverage and quality news that earned it seven Pulitzer Prizes. It is also well-known both in the local and international scene for its commendable photography and layout. The Seattle Times is only a single branch in a tree of affiliated newspapers. There are also three news, information, and advertising websites that are all based in the Northwest. These are: www.seattletimes.com, www.NWsource.com, and www.NWclassifieds.com.

Publications owned by the Seattle Times Company are: Yakima Herald-Republic, Walla Walla Union Bulletin, and The Issaquah Press, which are all based in the Washington area. The Blethen Maine Newspapers is also owned by the Seattle Time Company, namely: Portland Press Herald, Maine Sunday Telegram, Kennebec Journal, Morning Sentinel, Coastal Journal, as well as the www.MaineToday.com website.

Aside from the leading news carrier in state of Washington, the Seattle Times has also the most accessed newspaper website in all of the Northwest. This has greatly helped the Seattle Times newspaper in bringing its services to the people. The website’s contents are always updated to provide readers with the most current local and international news and information.

The Seattle Times has grown from a four-page newspaper to the country’s largest family-owned metropolitan newspaper. It’s not clear if coffee has something to do with its success. Needless to say, the Seattle Times was inching its way up long before Starbucks came up with its first cup.
